Man charged in connection with Antrim ATM theft

A man has been charged in connection with the theft of a double ATM machine at a shopping centre in Antrim on Friday.

He was detained along with a 43-year-old man on Friday, on suspicion of conspiracy to steal.

They were arrested after a cash machine was raided at Tesco in the Castle Way area of the town in the early hours of Friday. A digger was used to steal the unit and the vehicle was found on fire at the scene.

Police recovered the stolen ATM in the Birch Hill Road area, a few miles from the scene.

The 26-year-old man was charged with conspiracy to steal and is expected to appear before Coleraine Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The man in his 40s was interviewed before being released on bail.
