30 pigs die after falling into slurry pit in Co Antrim

Thirty pigs have perished after falling into a slurry tank at a farm in Co Antrim.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) confirmed six appliances were called out to an incident on the Ballinderry Road, Aghalee on Saturday morning.

A specialist Large Animal Rescue Team from Newcastle also attended.

The spokesperson said firefighters worked in “challenging conditions” and wore breathing apparatus during the rescue operation.

Twenty-five pigs were saved.
