Car rams filling station shutters in attempted ATM theft

A car has rammed shutters at a filling station in Ahoghill, Co Antrim during an overnight attempt to steal an ATM.

According to police, the vehicle – believed to be a dark-coloured Vauxhall Vectra – reversed repeatedly into the shutters at the premises on the Largy Road shortly after 2am on Friday.

A man then got out of the car and tried to break into the ATM.

He left the scene in the car empty-handed.

PSNI Detective Sergeant Lenaghan said: “Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed any suspicious vehicles in the area between 2.05am and 2.25am on Friday 21 February to contact detectives on 101.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
