Three people have been injured after a shot was fired amidst an aggravated burglary in Omagh.

Police are investigating the incident which took place on Mullaghmore Drive on the early hours of Friday.

A police spokesperson said: "It was reported that just after midnight, three masked men arrived at an address in the area and demanded money, before forcing entry into the property

"Once inside, three male occupants were assaulted sustaining injuries to their face, head and body. It was also reported that a firearm discharged inside the property."

Police later went on to condemn the altercation as a "brazen and reckless attack".

SDLP MLA Daniel McCrossan also condemned the attack,

“It is equally sickening and deplorable to hear of this incident in Omagh that could have easily led to the loss of life.

“It is my understanding that three men were assaulted at a property around midnight last night where a number of shots were fired. This could easily have led to death. Thankfully there have been no fatalities.

“I would encourage anyone with information to come forward to the PSNI. These types of crimes need to be eradicated from society.”
