Three people have been arrested after police recovered a quantity of drugs and a suspected firearm during searches in Belfast.

Police observed a man and woman acting suspiciously in a car on Upper Crescent in south Belfast shortly after 4pm on Saturday.

Officers stopped the car and, following a search of the vehicle and the occupants, recovered a quantity of suspected Class A controlled drugs.

A 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of a number of drugs offences. She was interviewed and subsequently released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A controlled drug and possession of a class A controlled drugs with intent to supply.

During a follow-up search of a house in the Colinvale area of west Belfast police recovered a suspected firearm and a quantity of suspected drugs.

A 37-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm in suspicious circumstances. She remains in police custody at this time.

The 36-year-old man arrested earlier was further arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances and remains in police custody.
