A drive-in cinema is opening in Belfast next weekend, with the profits going towards the fight against coronavirus.

The event will be staged at Titanic Quarter and eight films will be shown, including favourites such as Toy Story and Back to the Future.

Organisers said there will be socially-distanced parking and viewers will be able to enjoy the movies from the comfort of their car, while dressing up as favourite characters from the films is encouraged and there will be prizes for the best costumes.

Cormac O'Kane from Drive in Cinema Belfast said: “This is a great opportunity for a great family experience.

“You will be safe within your car. You will see the giant screen and you will hear the film through your car radio.”

Drive-in cinemas have been approved under the first stage of the lockdown-easing plan.

All the profits from the event on 13 and 14 June will be put towards vital Covid-19 research at Queen’s University.
