Teenager killed and six injured in Co Down crash

An 18-year-old man has died and six other young people have been injured in a two-car collision near Killyleagh in Co Down.

The young man who died was a passenger in a Peugeot 207 that collided with a Volkswagen Polo on the Coily Hill Road shortly after midnight on Monday.

Six other young people, four males and two females, were taken to hospital following the incident.

PSNI Inspector Frances McCullough said: "I am appealing for witnesses, or anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the collision, to please get in touch by calling 101."

Education Minister and local MLA Peter Weir said: "It is devastating news to hear that such a young man has died on our roads following a two vehicle collision near Killyleagh.

"My deepest sympathy to his family and friends at this most difficult time. I would urge anyone with any information to make this known to the PSNI."
