A man has been badly injured in what police say was a “vicious attack” by four masked men who forced entry to his flat in Londonderry.
The attack in the Aranmore Avenue area was reported at around 11.30pm on Tuesday.
Masked men armed with iron bars forced their way in and carried out the assault.
The victim had to be taken by ambulance to hospital with injuries to his hand, arm and shoulder and will need surgery.
PSNI Detective Inspector Boyd said: “We are working to establish a motive for this vicious attack.
“We would appeal to anyone who was in the area last night, between 11pm and 11.30pm, and saw any suspicious activity, or who has any information about this crime, to call our detectives at Strand Road on 101.”
