- Portadown 0-1 Crusaders
Irish Premiership leaders Crusaders maintained their four point lead at the top of the table after a 1-0 win over bottom side Portadown at Shamrock Park on Saturday.
Stephen Baxter’s side controlled proceedings but were unable to break down the hosts in the first half, with Paul Heatley squandering the best of the chances towards the end of the half.
The critical moment came in the 65th minute when Ken Oman felled Jordan Owens inside the area.
Gavin Whyte stepped up to convert from 12-yards, with the Crues holding out for a deserved result.
- Glentoran 0-1 Coleraine
Glentoran’s five match unbeaten streak came to an end on Saturday after they lost 1-0 to Coleraine at the Oval.
The only goal of the game came early in the second half, with Jamie McGonigle slotting home in the 47th minute after being played through by Darren McCauley.
The result means the Glens missed the chance to move up to seventh place in the table, and instead remain in ninth place.
Coleraine remain in fifth following their victory, although they are now within three points of the Ballymena United in third.
- Ballymena United 2-0 Carrick Rangers
Late goals from Kyle Owens and William Faulkner earned Ballymena United a 2-0 win over Carrick Rangers at the Ballymena Showgrounds on Saturday.
After a goalless first half, defender Owens broke the deadlock in the 77th minute he was quickest to react after Allan Jenkins had hit the post during a goalmouth scramble.
Faulkner added a second a minute from time when he strode into the area before lashing past Carrick stopper Brian Neeson.
David Jeffrey’s side stay in third place as a result of the win, while Carrick remain second from bottom.
- Ards 0-1 Glenavon
Glenavon secured a narrow victory over Ards to condemn the hosts to a fifth defeat in six games.
Niall Currie’s side were arguably the better side throughout, although they were handed a lifeline early in the second half when Aaron Hogg saved a penalty from fellow goalkeeper Jonathan Tuffey.
The home side were unable to hold on though, and Greg Moorehouse made the breakthrough when he scored on the rebound after Hogg had saved Rhys Marshall’s effort in the 63rd minute.
The result means that Gary Hamilton’s side remain in sixth place in the table, and five points ahead of Ards who seventh.
- Cliftonville 1-0 Ballinamallard
David McDaid snatched a last-gasp winner as Cliftonville earned a 1-0 win over Ballinamallard Utd at Solitude on Saturday.
After what was a fairly uneventful 90 minutes, the striker found the net in the fifth minute of stoppage time to deny the Mallards a share of the spoils.
The result means that the Reds remain just a point behind third-placed Ballymena United.
Ballinamallard remain tenth, and without a win in their last six league games.
