A 44-year-old man has died in custody at Magilligan Prison in Co Londonderry, the Northern Ireland Prison Service has said.
The prisoner’s next of kin have been informed, a statement said.
The PSNI, coroner and Prisoner Ombudsman have launched investigations into the death, as is standard procedure.
The Head of the Prison Service Ronnie Armour said: "I would like to extend my sympathy and that of the Northern Ireland Prison Service to the family of the prisoner who has died in Magilligan.
"My thoughts are with them at this difficult time."

A young female prison officer has suffered a serious wound to her neck in an attack by a male prisoner at Maghaberry.
The incident, believed to have involved a sharp makeshift weapon, happened at the high security facility outside Lisburn earlier on Monday.
The officer is understood to have been taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast for treatment.
