The former secretary of state for Northern Ireland James Brokenshire has been discharged from hospital after undergoing lung surgery.

He resigned from his role amid the last Cabinet reshuffle earlier this month due to his condition.

In a letter to Prime Minister Theresa May, Mr Brokenshire said he would be having surgery to remove a small lesion on his right lung.

On Saturday the 50-year-old Conservative MP for Old Bexley and Sidcup tweeted to say he was heading home and to praise the medical staff who treated him.
