Pontypridd's Big Weekend gets underway

Pontypridd's 'Big Weekend' gets underway today with three days of live music in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park.

Organisers say that the event draws 'sell out 10,000 crowds' each day, with music fans this year drawn to performances from the likes of Jessie J and Olly Murs.

Ponty's Big Weekend 2012 is set to be even bigger and better than before, with top acts and an exciting new fringe festival in the week leading up to the main weekend concerts. Tens of thousands of people are set to flock to Rhondda Cynon Taf from across the UK for the event, allowing the Council to showcase all the County Borough has to offer, as well as putting on a fantastic show and boosting the local economy.

Alongside headline acts, there will also be performances from local bands and the winners of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's 'Sonig Youth Music' competition.

Local council members say that the event is a big boost to the economy.

Ponty's Big Weekend is a flagship event and one that attracts tens of thousands of people to our county borough every year. We are now putting in place the final arrangements to ensure the visitors have a great time and enjoy their stay in Rhondda Cynon Taf, while also ensuring the local economy benefits.
