Waterhouse Inquiry blocked HTV showing new abuse claims

ITV Wales News can reveal that the Deputy Manager of a North Wales care home, Des Frost, made allegations of abuse at the centre ten years before his boss was jailed for sex crimes.

The abuse suffered by dozens of residents at children's homes across north Wales emerged in 1995 when the homes' boss, John Allen, was convicted of a series of indecent assaults.

Des Frost, the Deputy Manager at Bryn Alyn Care Home, spoke to a journalist at HTV News (which is now ITV Wales News) about the allegations. But the Waterhouse Inquiry which was investigating child abuse claims in North Wales at the time threatened the broadcaster with an injunction if the interview was used, saying it would be in contempt. It never called Des Frost as a witness.
