Four dead and three injured in crash on A470 near Storey Arms, Brecon

Four people have died and three others remain seriously injured following a crash on the A470 in Powys, mid-Wales.

The incident, involving a black Volkswagen Golf estate and a green Volkswagen Golf, happened just before 10.15pm last night near Storey Arms, Brecon.

The male driver of the green Golf and a male passenger, both from Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, died in the crash.

This afternoon Dyfed Powys Police confirmed two female passengers have died in hospital.

This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the families at this difficult time. We are working with South Wales Police in order to provide support to the families affected and also the communities they live within. We will work with partners to ensure that the incident is fully investigated.

While no names have yet been released, the headteacher of Barry school Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg told ITV News one current pupil and one former pupil died in the incident.

A statement on the school's website reads: 'Our thoughts and sympathies are with their families'.

It is understood a number of vehicles were travelling in convoy at the time of the crash.

Five male drivers, aged 17 and 18, have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and remain in police custody.

Officers have appealed for any witnesses to get in touch with the Dyfed Powys roads policing unit by calling 101.
