Landlord admits not taking fire safety precautions

A fireman who was the landlord of a house in which a couple and three children were killed by an arsonist, has admitted failing to take fire safety precautions as reasonably required.

43-year-old Jay Liptrot from Prestatyn accepted that he placed Lee-Anna Shiers, her partner Liam Timbrell and their son, niece and nephew, who were staying the night, at risk of death.

The prosecution at Caernarfon Crown Court accepted the plea to the new charge. Mr Liptrot has been bailed for sentencing on Friday.

Mrs Justice McGowan told him, "You must realise that is in no way designed to give you any sense of false hope about what will happen to you."

Liptrot denied five offences of manslaughter in October 2012.

The jury were discharged from reaching verdicts on the counts.
