Over a third of Welsh dementia sufferers live in rural areas

Over a third of people with dementia in Wales live in a rural area, according to a new report published today by the Alzheimer's Society.

The 'Dementia in Rural Wales' report has found that there are 17,000 people with dementia in Wales that live in rural areas.

The report is to be released later today at the Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells by Wales' First Minister Carwyn Jones.

The report highlights the additional challenges associated with living with dementia in rural areas. There is likely to be less support services commissioned in rural Wales and poor transport links can make access difficult.
