New smartphone app to help people find quickest care

Patients in North Wales can now get live information on waiting times at the regions A & E departments, and Minor Injuries Units, thanks to a new smartphone app.

The app lets people find out the opening times of departments, as well as contact details, directions to the different units, and an outline of the care they provide.

Developed by the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, North Wales is the first area to sign up to the app.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board say that by making this information easily available to the public, it will help people choose the best place to get help.

With the winter upon us we know that our Emergency Departments are going to be incredibly busy over the next three months, dealing with many people who are seriously ill. This can mean that people whose conditions are not urgent can face long waits to be seen.

The app can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store by searching for ‘Live Wait Times’. A version for Windows phones will also be developed.
