Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis: My advice for consumers after the Budget

ITV's consumer champion Martin Lewis has issued some financial advice for people following today's Budget.

The Martin Lewis Money Show presenter and founder of MoneySavingExpert.com described this year's offering from the Chancellor as "boring", with few surprises.

But he said the important message is that many of the changes we make ourselves can have a bigger effect on our personal finances than anything the Chancellor says.

Everything that goes on the Budget is the externalities of your personal finance. You have to look at what YOU do.

There's not much you can do to affect your income. But right now, 70 per cent of people are on their standard rates for gas and electricity. It only takes five minutes to get a cheaper gas and electricity bill.

We're about to see car insurance hikes over the next year - so go and make sure you do a comparison.

If you spend money on it, you can probably save on it.
