Labour hopes of Welsh gains boosted by exit poll

If tonight's exit poll is accurate and the same swing to Labour is seen across Wales, the party could hope to gain three seats tonight. Both Gower and Vale Of Clwyd, which were lost to the Conservatives in 2015, would be recaptured. Cardiff North is also a vulnerable Tory seat on these figures.

Welsh Labour has a mountain to climb in this election. Six weeks later, the political political landscape has shifted significantly, following a distinctly Welsh Labour campaign led by Carwyn Jones, and superb incumbency campaigns by candidates across Wales.

However, ITV News polling expert Prof Colin Rawlings has said the Wales could be a "marginal exception" to the swing from Conservative to Labour.
