Robert Knight, 43, who ran RK Transport Trade Centre in Cwmbran, had previously pleaded guilty to 32 offences concerning breaches of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations, following an investigation by Torfaen council’s trading standards team.

In 2016 he was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court to seven months in prison for these offences, to be carried out on top of a three year sentence he was already serving for another, unrelated offence.

He has now been ordered to pay £156,359.33 which £16,359.33 will be split between his 16 victims.

Mr Knight persistently sold cars in a manner which fell short of the standards expected by the law, and put the safety of the public at risk.

This order should serve as a warning to criminals who attempt to profit from breaching trading standards legislation that the courts can confiscate any monies or assets that they can't prove have been earned legitimately.
