Ex-girlfriend of paedophile Ian Watkins 'deserves an apology' from police

The lawyer of Joanne Mjadzelics - ex-girlfriend of convicted paedophile Ian Watkins - says she deserves an apology from police.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has found South Wales Police missed opportunities to bring convicted paedophile Ian Watkins to justice sooner, including failing to properly investigate reports of Watkins's wrongdoing made by Joanne Mjadzelics.

Defence Barrister Michael Wolkind QC said that although Joanne had an apology from South Yorkshire police, another force involved in the case, it was about time that figures in Wales said sorry too.

Joanne has moderate satisfaction with the report. She's finally vindicated it's true. It brings about for her all the horror of her trying so hard to report this for the police to pay attention and they didn't.

And she notes, it's not her main priority, but she notes that there's no personal apology for her. There was from the south Yorkshire police, but from the Welsh force there isn't.

They apologise generally for mistakes they've made and failings, but they don't seem able to face her. She deserves a proper apology.
