Call for England to follow Wales' lead in displaying food hygiene ratings

There are calls for England to follow Wales' lead in displaying food hygiene ratings in restaurants, cafes and shops to help improve standards, a union has urged. .

A study by GMB found that thousands of premises selling food had a food hygiene rating of two or less, meaning improvements had to be made.

The union called for it to be mandatory that food hygiene ratings produced by the Food Standards Agency be displayed in the premises of any organisation that sells or provides food in England.

Wales introduced mandatory display of food hygiene ratings in November 2013 and Northern Ireland in October 2016.
