The problems in the health service have been brewing for days but Health Secretary Vaughan Gething has told ITV Wales this is his first "full day of government business" of 2018.
He says in an interview that he's been away with his family "recharging batteries" but acknowledges NHS staff are working around the clock.
Speaking for the first time about the pressures hospitals are facing, he apologises for those who've had cancelled operations and says the Welsh NHS has faced additional unexpected pressures in the last few weeks.
Today NHS England published weekly performance datahighlighting some of the average waits people there have had in hospital.
But when asked what was the current average waiting time in Wales was, the Health Secretary said he couldn't tell us because those figures will be published next month.
