A 25-year-old female member of prison staff at HMP Berwyn has been arrested for 'Misconduct in Public office' at the prison this afternoon.
She is now in police custody awaiting interview.
The member of staff was arrested as part of a joint operation between Her Majesties Prison and Probation Service(HMPPS) Berwyn, Titan’s Prison Investigation Team and North Wales Police.
It was part of an ongoing anti-corruption investigation, named Operation Earthly.
Police also co-ordinated searches of an address in North Wales.
Specialist search teams are now searching identified parts of the prison.
Behaviour like this undermines the safety and security of the prison and those who work and visit Berwyn. This operation shows the strong relationship between Criminal Justice partners to reduce the risk of corruption in prisons.
