Parents complain about sex workers outside Swansea school

Parents have complained after seeing sex workers operating near a Swansea special school in the middle of the day.

They say they have seen the women close to Ysgol Crug Glas in Croft Street when they are picking up their children in the afternoon.

Police say they have been doing more patrols following the complaints.

Last Friday, condoms and drug paraphernalia were found behind an empty pub close to the school.

We have asked for an urgent meeting with the police and various agencies involved.

There is two issues to consider there, one is that there is a negative impact of street prostitution in terms of our residents and local businesses.

On the other hand many of the women involved in prostitution are vulnerable and possibly homeless, possibly abusing drugs and alcohol and possibly trafficked.

What we need to do is find some way forward to take them off the streets.

While at the same time I am trying to support these women.

– Cllr Sybil Crouch

We know we have got a problem, we haven’t worked out how we are going to resolve it but it needs partnership working.

It’s not fair to the residents who may have experienced inconvenience and it’s not fair on the women.

They are not there out of choice, they have no other way to secure money that they need to.
