Dogs deemed 'too ugly' for social media pictures being dumped in animal shelters

Dogs deemed 'too ugly' for social media pictures are being dumped in animal shelters.

A report by Dogs Blog found that more than half of shelters in the UK believe celebrities are fuelling the sale of 'fashionable' breeds, leaving their more unpopular counterparts in shelters, waiting to find homes.

Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Akitas, and Greyhounds are the three most-common breeds abandoned in rescue shelters according to the research.

It also found that owners are now looking to adopt 'cuter' breeds popular among celebrities, such as French Bulldogs, Pugs and Miniature Dachshunds.

There is this social media, Instagram culture if you like where particular breeds of dog are more popular because they're seen with celebrities, they're seen to have their own accounts.

What that means is that in some of our animal centres we are finding it potentially harder to push other breeds of dogs into new homes.

Certain breeds of dogs are certainly harder to re-home than others.
