Protest held over plans to close public toilets in Porthcawl

Protesters outside the John St toilets in Porthcawl town centre

Campaigners have handed over a petition against the closure of public toilets in Porthcawl.

Bridgend Council plan to shut the town's John Street toilets but these plans have been met with criticism. Many believe their closure will put people off from visiting.

As a wheelchair user, I do tend to plan my day, and a lot of my day's planning is around toilets,' he said.

Whenever I come to Porthcawl I know where the toilets are. I know they're situated in the town centre and if they take them away, there isn't anywhere for a wheelchair user or anyone with a disability to go to the toilet.'

– Simon Green, Bridgend Coalition for Disabled People

Bridgend County Borough Council say it needs to make millions of pounds worth of cuts and the decision to shut them has not been taken lightly.
