Work has started to remove toll booths on the Severn bridges as the crossings prepare to go toll-free.
From Friday, and across the weekend, a number of closures and diversion will be in effect.
Friday 14th December
From 9am on Friday, three lanes at the toll plaza will be closes on the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge to allow work to start. The remaining lanes will be open as usual.
At 8pm, the bridge will be fully closed westbound and drivers will be diverted via the M48 bridge, which will operate as usual.
Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th December
From 6am to 8pm, three lanes at the Prince of Wales Bridge will be closed with the remaining operating as normal.
Overnight, the bridge will fully close westbound and drivers will again be diverted via the M48 bridge.
Monday 17th December
The Prince of Wales Bridge will reopen with three free flowing lanes. These will be narrow lanes with a 50mph speed limit to ensure the safety of drivers.
Shortly after the Prince of Wales Bridge reopens, the M48 bridge will be fully closed westbound, reopening on the morning of 19 December with two free flowing lanes. These will be narrow lanes with a 50mph speed limit for the safety of drivers.
