Body found in Cardiff woodland is identified as missing man Mohamed Megherbi

A body found in Cardiff woodland has been formally identified as that of Mohamed Megherbi.

The body of Mr Megherbi, who was last seen on Tuesday, October 9 in Roath, was found by specialist search officers near Pentwyn Leisure Centre on Friday, November 30.

South Wales Police said that the next of kin have been traced in Algeria and informed of his death.

Kane Burns, 26, from Llanedeyrn, is charged with murder and is remanded in custody for a further hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on February 12.

Mr Mergherbi’s mother in Algeria has been given the devastating news about her son.

We will continue to work with the Algerian Consulate to update the family and support them as best we can during our investigation.

The 24-year-old, who is from Algeria, had strong links to northwest London and had recently been living in Newport Road, Roath.

Police are still appealing for information.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who knew Mr Mergherbi and anyone who may have seen him after the last sighting in Roath on Tuesday, October 9.
