A former Swansea councillor has been jailed for 14 online child sex abuse offences dating from 2008 to 2017.

Rene Kinzett was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court to 45 months after admitting the charges, including encouraging other offenders to share child abuse material.

The 43-year-old is a well-known figure in Swansea and was also a former parliamentary candidate.

He was arrested by the Metropolitan Police in 2015 and was being investigated in 2017.

That year, Kinzett signed into a live-streaming chat room where footage of children being raped was being broadcast.

He was present when seven of the worst category of videos were being streamed.

The National Crime Agency said he asked other users several times if anyone had any “pedo mom vids?”

South Wales Police are urging anyone who has been the victim of sexual abuse to come forward.

They say safeguarding children is "everyone’s responsibility" and encourage anyone with information that could help police to contact 101 or 999 in an emergency.
