'Gained in translation!' Sign claiming journey will be two minutes quicker for Welsh speakers

Credit: Wendy Davies

A sign has gone viral on social media after being spotted in Abergele which states the same journey will be two minutes quicker in Welsh.

The sign in English says a journey to the cafes and shops will take eight minutes but six minutes in the Welsh translation.

Wendy Davies, who photographed the sign, pointed out the irony that the word which was mistranslated was actually a number.

It has proved popular with Welsh speakers on social media, with one commenting that it means they are faster runners than English speakers and another saying it is the reason they are learning the language.

And some suggested it was because the Welsh would be there "now in a minute".
