A painting of the late Windsor Davies has appeared on a rock face near his hometown of Nantymoel.

The tribute depicts the actor in character as the sergeant major in the TV series It Ain’t Half Hot Mum.

Davies who was 88, died on Thursday.

Photos of the tribute were shared on social media.

One of the first to spot it was Andrew Groom, from Treherbert who was cycling on Bwlch-Y-Clawdd Road near Nantymoel on Sunday.

He said the picture was 'lovingly painted.'

It is not known who the anonymous artist is.

I felt a sense of joy and pride that someone would commemorate him in such a way, overlooking the village where he spent so much of his childhood.

I took some pictures and shared them with friends on Facebook. Before long, it was shared by thousands of people and the response has been so positive and uplifting.

I think it is a beautiful tribute to a man that has brought so much happiness and laughter to so many people.

The artist, who wishes to remain anonymous, has made a limited collection of five similar pictures that he intends to give to local charities and good causes including the Ton-Pentre Rhondda Foodbank and The British Legion.
