Police investigate 'unexplained' death of man after body found in Neath canal

Police are investigating an 'unexplained and sudden' death of a man in Neath after a body was found in a canal.

Officers were called to Bridge Street on Wednesday morning where the discovery was made.

The death is being treated as 'unexplained and sudden'.

Fire and rescue services also attended the scene. It confirmed the man was dead on arrival.

Appliances from Swansea Central and Neath Fire Station attended a South Wales Police led incident near Bridge Street, Neath. Officers responded to information that a body had been spotted in the canal. Upon attendance, it was confirmed that the individual was deceased. Fire Service personnel assisted the police in the recovery of the body from the canal using a rescue sled.

Councillor Alan R.Lockyer said it is "tragic news".
