Schools and roads closed as snow disrupts parts of Wales

Heavy snowfall across parts of Wales has forced roads and schools to close.

The Met office has issued a "be aware" severe weather warning for snow on high ground across much of central and southern Wales.

The Rhigos mountain road near Aberdare in South Wales was closed with snow causing treacherous conditions on other mountain roads.

There were also warnings of difficult driving conditions on the A44 at Aberystwyth, the A465 at Brynmawr, the A470 Crimea Pass and the A472 at Crumlin in Caerphilly.

There were also long delays reported on the Second Severn Crossing on Thursday morning.

Six schools in the Rhondda have closed because of the snow.

  • Maerdy Community Primary,
  • Penrhys Primary
  • Tai Education Centre
  • Ysgol Nantgwyn.
