Over a hundred people attend funeral of soldier that died alone with no family

Almost 200 people lined the streets of Northop, Flintshire to pay their respects to a former Royal Marine that died with no immediate family.

David Butler died in hospital earlier this month, but he started his military career as a teenage recruit who saw active service in Aden, Cyprus and Northern Ireland.

Following his death, a Facebook appeal was set up asking soldiers, sailors and airmen and women to turn up to his funeral.

Veterans and current servicemen and women travelled from Chester, Liverpool and Manchester to pay their respects to the former Royal Marine.

That guy's got no family. We are a family and we look after our family.

We'll go to everywhere to look after our family.

– John Schofield, Veteran
