The Welsh and Scottish Governments are warning the UK Government that a no-deal Brexit could make it harder for Welsh and UK students to study abroad.

A joint letter raised concerns over the future of Erasmus+, the exchange programme that allows EU students to study overseas.

If the Prime Minister insists on crashing out of the EU without a deal it could cause severe damage to the prospects of university students, staff and the communities across Wales in which our universities play an integral part.

– Kirsty Williams AM, Education Minister

It calls on the UK Government to continue participation in the scheme in the event of leaving the EU without a deal in place.

10,000
students and staff in Wales have taken part in the scheme since 2014.

The UK Government said it has already guaranteed cover and is exploring a successor scheme.
