Wales international and Derby County footballer Tom Lawrence has been charged with drink driving following a crash.

The Wrexham born 25-year-old was charged alongside fellow Derby teammate Mason Bennett.

The incident happened on the A6 in Derby just before midnight on Tuesday 24 September.

The pair were arrested at the scene of the crash which involved a Range Rover and a Mercedes.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit posted a picture on Twitter showing the damaged Range Rover, which had mounted a kerb and collided with a lamppost.

In a statement, Derbyshire Constabulary said: "Two men have been charged with drink-driving after a collision involving a Range Rover Sport and a Mercedes GLC at the junction of Burley Hill and the A6 at Allestree last night."

Both men are due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on 15 October.
