A dead otter has been found in Bute Park in Cardiff.
Urban rangers in Cardiff said it is currently in a freezer and will be taken to Cardiff University for an autopsy.
The otter is a European Protected Species (EPS). It is against the law to damage or destroy an otter breeding site or resting place, or deliberately to capture, kill, injure or disturb an otter.
Otters are protected under the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017, known as the ‘Habitats Regulations’.
Natural Resources Wales said this is because the otter population has declined throughout Europe during recent decades.
There are now healthy otter populations throughout most of Wales.
