Volunteers from Llanberis Mountain Rescue team had their Christmas preparations interrupted when they were called out by police after four hillwalkers came across two men who were "heavily" drunk and stuck 3,560 feet up Snowdon.

Rescuers said a group of hillwalkers had come across two "intoxicated" men who were unable to move and despite advising them that it was getting dark they were "uncooperative and not in a fit state to make their way unaided off the mountain".

Police called in the rescue team to help out and a hill party was tasked with locating the men and bringing them down to Pen Y Pass where "their intentions for onward travel could be discussed with police".
