Fresh warning about the spread of flu this winter

Credit: PA

People in Wales are being warned about the spread of flu.

Most people with flu do not need to visit their GP, and will recover in a week, but for others it can be potentially fatal.

To limit the spread of the disease this winter people are being reminded to to Catch it, Bin it, Kill it.

  • Catch it - Always cough or sneeze into a tissue
  • Bin it - Dispose of the tissue as soon as possible
  • Kill it - Clean your hands as soon as you can

Flu is a serious illness which can cause complications like bronchitis, pneumonia, meningitis and inflammation of the brain. If you think you have flu and are pregnant or have a long term health condition or are aged 65 or over, or if it is your child that is unwell, speak to your GP surgery as soon as possible as there is an increased risk of complications and they may prescribe antiviral medicines to help.

You should also seek medical advice if your symptoms are getting worse or haven’t improved after a week.

If you think you have flu please remember to rest, keep warm, drink plenty of fluids and take paracetamol or ibuprofen and also avoid contact with vulnerable individuals while you have symptoms.
