Man, 87, hospitalised with serious injuries after Cardiff crash

An 87-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries following a car crash in Cardiff on Thursday.

South Wales Police has issued an appeal for witnesses following the collision which involved a white Citroen and a black Mercedes near Callaghan Square at around midday.

The elderly man sustained a number of serious injuries and was taken to the University Hospital of Wales where he currently remains.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

A second man, aged 29, was also arrested on suspicion of the same offences and has been released under investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or the manner in which either vehicle was being driven prior to it, is asked to make contact with police. Officers would also like to hear from anyone who may have dash cam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage which may assist the investigation.
