Wales' worst-hit Covid-19 hospital has no positive cases for first time in five months

One of the UK's worst-hit Covid-19 hospitals has no positive cases of the virus for the first time in five months.The Royal Gwent hospital in Newport saw one of the highest number of infections outside of London when the pandemic took hold and was described as a coronavirus "hotspot."Staff at the Aneurin Bevan Health Board hospital were also hit by the virus - with 50 per cent testing positive in April.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board confirmed the Royal Gwent had no active cases but there was still "a number of recovering Covid-19 patients at the hospital who have previously tested positive and have since tested negative."

The health board also said: "We also have a number of suspected COVID-19 cases awaiting test results.

"It is important to remember that this virus is still circulating within our communities and the advice remains the same that it is important we continue to follow Welsh Government guidance to keep Wales safe."
