A map on the independent website DownDetector showed issues in the Cardiff and surrounding areas as well as London and Brighton.

With many people still working from home, frustrated customers used social media to ask for updates from the company.

Sky tweeted on Thursday morning to apologise and said engineers were on site and working to restore service "ASAP".

It later tweeted to say it was aware of issues impacting customers South East England, Leicester and Wales.

"We are investigating the issue, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing", it said.

It advised people still experiencing problems to keep up to date on the My Sky App and check their service status on the Sky website.
