A487 Bangor crash: Cyclist dies and van driver arrested after collision

A cyclist has died following a crash involving a van on the outskirts of Bangor.
The 40-year-old local man died in hospital after a collision on the A487 Faenol Hill this morning (9 December).
Police received a report of a collision involving a grey VW Crafter van and a pedal cyclist near Penrhosgarnedd at around 7am.
The van driver, a 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and is in custody.
Emergency services attended the scene and the cyclist was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd where he later died.
Liam Ho, Sergeant of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who sadly died.
"We need to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and I am appealing to any motorists who were travelling in the area and who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage to contact us.
“I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closure is in place. This is absolutely necessary to allow us to carry out a thorough scene examination.”
Police are urging people who have witnessed the collision or if they have any dashcam footage of the incident to contact officers at the Roads Policing Unit.
