Ponty Lido is hosting its first ever New Year's Day swim following a very busy year.
The National Lido of Wales welcomed more than 98,500 visitors in 2021, making it the busiest season since 2015 despite limitations on visitor numbers due to the pandemic.
The announcement comes after Rhondda Cynon Taf Council shared the return of the popular Boxing Day swim in Pontypridd earlier this month. Tickets sold out within minutes and so the New Year's Day event has been confirmed.
Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, Councillor Andrew Morgan, said: "I am pleased to be able to confirm that the very first New Year’s Day Swim will be held at the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty.
"The 2021 season has proven to be an enormous success and it has been great to see so many supporting the Lido after the significant damage sustained during Storm Dennis.
“I would once again like to give my thanks to all of the staff who have agreed to work on both Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
"And for all their hard work throughout the year in ensuring that those who did visit could enjoy the fantastic facilities in a safe manner.”
More information on tickets will be released soon.
