"Active search" for missing fisherman ends

A full scale search for a fisherman missing since his boat sank off the coast of Pembrokeshire last week has ended, coastguards have confirmed.

32-year-old Daniel Willington from Carew was checking lobster pots on his fishing boat along with his father Gareth, when their vessel hit rocks and broke up on Friday.

59-year-old Gareth Willington was found but later died in hospital after being flown by rescue helicopter to Haverfordwest.

There is now no current active lifeboat search involved in the operation.

Milford Haven coastguard did confirm that although there is no current active lifeboat search, coastguards will remain on patrol in the area over the next couple of days.

The man was taken to hospital last night, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say the man's family have been informed and are being supported by officers.

The alarm was raised yesterday afternoon after members of the public spotted a vessel in trouble near St David's Head.

Another crew member is still missing, despite an intensive search involving coastguards, RNLI and a search and rescue helicopter.

One man found in search and rescue of sunken fishing boat

Coastguards have confirmed one man has been found in the search and rescue of a sunken fishing boat in St David's Head, Pembrokeshire.

He was pulled from the water last night and taken to hospital but his condition is not known.

The search and rescue operation to find the other crew member resumed this morning.

The HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter based at St Athan and Coastguard Rescue Teams from St David's Head and Fishguard are all involved in the ongoing search, along with three RNLI lifeboats, also from St David's Head and Fishguard.

The fishing vessel is being named as the Harvester.

Fishing boat 'sinks' off Pembrokeshire

The Coastguard and Maritime Agency says a search and rescue is underway after a fishing boat sank at St David’s Head, Pembrokeshire.

The UK Coastguard received a 999 call from a member of the public just before 2.30pm today to say they could see a fishing vessel in difficulty near the rocks at St David’s Head just before it sank.

It is unknown how many crew were on board when the ship went down.

The Coastguard search and rescue helicopter at St Athan, and the Coastguard Rescue Teams from St David's Head and Fishguard are all searching the area.
