U.S President Donald Trump taken to social media to hit out at Barack Obama's decision to commute former soldier Chelsea Manning's prison sentence.

Trump described Manning - who was given a 35-year jail term for leaking thousands of military and government documents to Wikileaks in 2013 - as an 'ungrateful traitor' who should 'never have been released from prison'.

Writing for The Guardian from prison, Manning, who grew up in Haverfordwest and was previously known as Bradley, said America needs an 'unapologetic progressive leader'.

The one simple lesson to draw from President Obama’s legacy: do not start off with a compromise. They won’t meet you in the middle. Instead, what we need is an unapologetic progressive leader.

– Chelsea Manning, writing for The Guardian newspaper

She also took to Twitter to say she 'can't wait to go home'.
