A system that allows people to make an inquiry about a partner they suspect has a violent past is being tried by a police force in South Wales.

If the checks show a person has a record of abusive behaviour, the police will consider sharing the information with the person thought to be at risk.

The scheme, which is also being trialled in Wiltshire, is named after Clare Wood, who was strangled by ex-boyfriend George Appleton in 2009. Her family later found out that he had a history of violence against women.
