Dentist jailed for £47,900 NHS fraud

A dentist in Llandrindod Wells has been jailed for 18 months after falsely claiming £47,900 from the NHS in a "deliberate and sophisticated" fraud.

Jochemus Venter made 211 fraudulent claims involving more than 100 patients over four years.

Venter, 55 and from South Africa, charged for £300 crowns when all he did was fillings, claimed £1,200 for bogus orthodontal work and made multiple claims for non-existent appointments.

He admitted eight charges of fraud and asked for 147 further offences to be taken into account during proceedings at Cardiff Crown Court.
