The turtle was found in a lake at Garn Lakes nature reserve in Blaenavon by a member of the public. The reptile was later identified as an African sideneck turtle.

In a separate incident, three terrapins were found dumped in a toy box outside “Sofa Sofa” in Crumlin. The large terrapins later identified as sliders and all were in reasonable condition.

All of the animals were taken to the International Tortoise Association sanctuary in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Anyone with possible information about either the turtle or the terrapins is urged to contact the RSPCA inspector’s information line on 0300 123 8018.
